Bike registry

Check a bike before you take it on consignment or buy it back

The Care.bike registry shows whether a bike is registered, whether its ownership is verified and whether it has been reported stolen. A QR sticker, Care.bike ID or frame serial number is all you need.

Before you take a bike on consignment, buy it back or accept it for service, you find out in seconds whether it has been reported stolen.

A bike reported stolen can't be transferred, consigned or taken over. The system stops it on its own.

A bike you sell through Care.bike has its ownership origin confirmed by the seller. With Care.bike PASS+, anyone who checks the bike can see it.

An owner with PASS+ reports the theft in the app, the bike appears in the stolen bike registry and a finder can message them without seeing their details.

Checking without signing in

  • QR sticker or Care.bike ID: scan the code with your phone or type it in on the Check a bike page

  • No sticker: choose the brand and enter the frame serial number

  • Result: the bike's brand, model, size and colour and its registry status: reported stolen, verified ownership origin, or origin not verified

The owner's personal details are never shown during a check.

The Check a bike page is public, for businesses and cyclists alike.

Find a bike without a sticker by its brand and serial number.

A public list searchable by Care.bike ID, serial number, brand and model.

A stolen bike can't be transferred, consigned or taken over.

A finder messages the owner without seeing their details.

An owner with PASS+ knows when someone scans their bike's sticker.

Confirmed by the seller, a proof of purchase or a transfer from a verified owner.

The public sees the bike and its status, never the owner.

A bike that isn't in the registry can be registered straight from the search result.

The bike registry is used by retailers, service centres, e-shops and manufacturers.

How much does a bike check cost?

Nothing. The Check a bike page and the stolen bike registry are free for everyone, with no sign-in.

Will I see who owns the bike?

No. The registry shows the bike and its status; the owner's personal details are not displayed. You can message the owner of a stolen bike through the form on the bike page.

What if the bike isn't in the registry?

It only means nobody has registered it yet, not that everything is fine. Ask for a proof of purchase and register the bike straight away.

Who can report a theft?

The bike's owner with Care.bike PASS+, right in the app. The bike appears in the stolen bike registry immediately and its page shows it as stolen when scanned.
